Are you a musician?  Yes.  Is your husband, too?  Yes.  We get asked these questions.  People don't know our background here.  So, they ask. Yes. We are both musicians and we are both music teachers.  That would probably be a telltale sign that we are both musicians of some sort.  Wouldn't it?  Here's the mister at Saturday's gig...Not sure why he's frowning?!? We play.  Gigs.  Not every week-end but we play.  It's usually fun stuff.  Extra cash stuff.  Or, school related stuff.  Either way, it's usually fun.  The…
  • My Heart Went to the Beach...

    Lisa
    5 May 2012 | 9:21 am
It's strange. We have kids. We quickly find our hearts running around outside of our bodies.  Actually, my heart is packing the beach bag.  Cleaning out his car.  Searching for sunscreen.  He has been planning his first jaunt to the beach alone all week.  Well, not exactly alone.  Alone without parents.  He is taking a girl.  And, my heart will be following behind...hoping she doesn't break his. Strange how that works.  He is planning ahead.  Hoping.  I am looking back remembering the day I brought him home from the hospital.  Hard…
  • Schnitzel, German Beer and Andre

    2 May 2012 | 7:34 pm
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind who deserves the credit for this one.  The mister was right on the money!  It was his suggestion and we are still  talking about last night's dinner this evening. Imported beer.  Bratwurst.  Fried Potatoes. Sauerkraut.  Konigsberger Klopse und Karoffein.  I had you till that last one.  Right?  No, I don't speak German.  I had to look it up.  Meatballs and potatoes.  All at Andre's. We have driven past this tiny restaurant for nearly two years.  Every once in a while, the mister would…
  • ~Another Saturday on the Plantation~

Middleton Place.  History.  The long ago kind.  The idea to tour the plantation belonged to the mister.  The land belonged to the Middletons.  A very long time ago.... Henry Middleton acquired the property when he married Mary Williams in 1741.  Must be nice.  For a 125 years, the property was the family seat of four successive generations of Middletons.  All of whom played important roles in history.  We learned a lot and even better than that, we enjoyed the spectacular views..... We got our share of fresh air, too.  We walked the grounds…

Okay.  Some days you feel the need to drink a gallon of wine.  Of course, you don't actually do that.  You settle for one glass.  And then, maybe, half of another.  Who wants to store two inches of wine in their fridge, anyway.  Right?  It was that sort of Monday.  When kindergarteners are trying out their newly discovered middle finger gestures just to see if they really work and fourth graders are really experimenting with sounding sassy, it's wine time.  Teachers around the world know exactly what I am talking about!   While I was…

  • Neighborhood Dining - West Ashley

    15 May 2012 | 8:30 pm
Taco Spot, Charleston, S.C.I worried about leaving all my neighborhood gourmet grocery stores when I moved West Ashley but I am not exactly starving to death. I've been checking out all the local places to eat. Last week I went to Al Di La (not impressed this time although I have loved it in the past) with my son and Sunday night I walked around the corner to Taco Spot for a tasty black bean quesadilla. It is a tiny spot! Hot Sauce at Taco Spot, Charleston, S.C.This evening I met my friend Susan and we ate at a picnic table outside at the Glass Onion. Check out this feast! I have half of it…
  • Mystery Woman

    14 May 2012 | 10:11 pm
Coming St., Charleston, S.C.I waiting for the steam to blow in the right direction when the woman stepped into the scene and improved the shot. Check out VanessaK's photos of the Tall Ships in Savannah. Wow. Noah Moore wrote a lovely entry about his mother for Mother's Day. I love it when Cocktails in Charleston features a tilt shift photo in lieu of a cocktail. Good night kids. Someone turn the lights out.
  • Cottage Living

    14 May 2012 | 9:41 pm
Adidas Rd., Eutawville, S.CI love these little lowcountry cottages. I assumed this one was abandoned but after slowing down to get a shot I realized that it was occupied. Ooops. I tried to wave cheerfully and moved along. In other news I just caught the tail end of Chef Sean Brock on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservation. How exciting is that?! Pretty darn exciting :) Wish I'd seen the whole thing.
  • STOP and smell the flowers

    13 May 2012 | 12:40 pm
Add captionI thought this STOP signed lined up nicely with the blossoms and made a "Stop and smell the flowers" photo. It looks like a good year for Magnolia trees in the lowcountry.
  • May showers, spring flowers

    13 May 2012 | 12:27 pm
Canon Park, Charleston, S.C.These flowers were saying, "Thank you, thank you, thank you" so joyously I could almost hear them but wasn't it lucky that College of Charleston graduation ceremony was yesterday instead of today? The empty chairs looked sad in the rain. I love it that graduation is on Mother's Day weekend. What a happy gift to watch your child graduate from university.I hope all the mother's are having a good day. There is nothing more rewarding than raising little ones. I feel very fortunate to have two great kids and I love 'em to little tiny pieces.

  • Debilitated loggerhead admitted into Aquarium's Sea Turtle Hospital

    15 Apr 2012 | 11:27 am
A severely debilitated loggerhead sea turtle was rescued on Saturday afternoon after being found floating in the Dewees Inlet. Rescuers Courtney, Jim, and their dog Moses, are no strangers to sea turtles, spending a great deal of time in coastal waters for work (Barrier Island Eco Tours) and play. While enjoying the beautiful spring day they encountered the sea turtle floating at the water's surface and it was obvious the animal was in distress. As they inched the boat closer to get a better look, the turtle was unable to dive.Stranding team members from the Island Turtle Team and the SC…

  • Nikki Haley, Mick Zais further ruin public schools with charter bill

    14 May 2012 | 4:49 pm
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley signed into law Monday a bill expanding charter schools, calling it a big first step in improving education by expanding options for parents who don't want to send their children to traditional public schools. The new law allows boys-only and girls-only charter schools and requires traditional schools to open their doors for students who want to do extracurricular activities not offered by their charter school. It also allows universities to sponsor their own schools. So, we have the further ruining of public schools with Nikki Haley and cohort Mick Zais.
